The annual Army Operations Research
Symposium (AORS) will be held 7 to 9 November at the Army Logistics
Management College at Fort Lee, Virginia. The theme of this
year's symposium is "Meeting the Challenges of Traditional, Irregular,
Disruptive, and Catastrophic Warfare." On 7 November, Dr.
Wayne Winston, leading operations research expert and author, will
present a tutorial on "How Excel and Excel Add-Ins Can Make Life
Easier for OR Analysts." Featured speakers include
Lieutenant General David F. Melcher, Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8,

ARMY DEPLOYMENT
EXCELLENCE AWARD NOMINATIONS
The Army is accepting nominations
for the 2007 Deployment Excellence Award (DEA). Units that executed
or supported a training or contingency deployment between 1 December
2005 and 30 November 2006 are eligible to participate in the award
program. Units and installations are encouraged to begin planning
their nomination now.
Important DEA dates are—
- 1 December
2005 to 30 November 2006. Submit nomination packets through command
channels.
- 31 January
2007. Nomination packets are due from the major commands to the DEA
evaluation board.
- 5 to 16
February 2007. DEA board screens unit packets to select
semifinalists.
- 1 to 25
March 2007. DEA teams visit selected semifinalists and conducts
on-site observation of deployment practices.
- 9 April
2007. Army G—4 selects and announces winners.
- 17 May
2007. DEA awards are presented at the Chief of Staff Army Combined
Logistics Excellence Award Ceremony and Banquet.

DEFENSE LOGISTICS 2006 CONFERENCE SCHEDULED
The Annual North American
Logistics Conference, Defense Logistics 2006, will be held 27 to 30
November at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC. Scheduled
speakers include General Norton A. Schwartz, Commander, U.S.
Transportation Command; Lieutenant General C. V. Christianson,

ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIPS
The American Society of Naval Engineers
(ASNE) sponsors a scholarship program for studies in naval
architecture; marine, mechanical, civil, aeronautical, electrical, and
electronic engineering; and the physical sciences. Scholarships
are provided to support either the last year of a full-time (or co-op)
undergraduate program or 1 year of a graduate program leading to a
designated engineering or physical science degree in an accredited
college or university. The scholarship awards for the 2007-2008
school year will be $3,000 for undergraduate students and $4,000 for
graduate students. All
candidates must be U.S. citizens and have demonstrated a genuine
interest in a career in naval engineering. Graduate student
candidates must be members of ASNE or the Society of Naval Architects
and Marine Engineers.

documentation must arrive at ASNE by 15 February 2007 to be considered
for a 2007-2008 scholarship.
