MENTAL HEALTH
SELF-ASSESSMENT PROGRAM
The Department of
Defense Mental health Self-Assessment Program offers anonymous mental
health and alcohol abuse self-assessments online and over the
telephone for military service members and their Families. This
service is aimed at helping military Families cope with the stress of
deployment. The self-assessments address depression, bipolar
disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress
disorder, and alcohol use. The assessments are completely
voluntary and anonymous, and the program provides individuals with
information about the services available to them. To access the

THE RETURNING HERO
COUNSELING NETWORK
Two
nonprofit organizations have launched a new program called the
Returning Hero Counseling Network to provide therapy and counseling
for U.S. troops who are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. The
Coalition to Salute America's Heroes, which is dedicated to helping
severely wounded War on Terrorism veterans and their families, and
Give an Hour, an organization that maintains a national network of
licensed mental health volunteers, announced a partnership in this
effort
The licensed mental health
professionals volunteering in the effort will give an hour of their
time each week to provide free mental health services to military
personnel and their families. Give an Hour will continue to
recruit volunteers and offers a variety of training opportunities to
registered counselors. If you are a mental health provider and
