Summary of the Army Operations Research Symposium 2010 (AORS 2010)

On 13-14 October 2010, the Center for Army Analysis and the Army Logistics University co-hosted the 49th Army Operations Research Symposium (AORS) in Bunker Hall located at Fort Lee, Virginia.  The theme for this year's symposium was "Full Spectrum Operations in a Complex Environment."  The symposium attracted a record number of Army Operations Research (OR) analysts and participants.  During the two day event, over 100 ORSA briefings were presented in morning plenary and afternoon topical work-group sessions.

On 13 October, the Wilbur B. Payne Awards were presented for the most distinguished small and large group papers during the morning plenary session.  The afternoon breakout sessions provided topical briefings and included Special Sessions focused on relevant research such as Irregular Warfare and Counter Insurgency modeling advancements.  During the evening of the first day, analysts gathered at the Fort Lee Club to socialize and network with their peers and colleagues.

On 14 October, Mr. Don Tison, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, delivered the Keynote Address during the morning plenary session.  The afternoon sessions again provided opportunities for OR analysts to brief peers on their most recent and relevant work.  The 49th AORS concluded on the evening of the second day with an AORS Banquet and Operations Research Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.  COL (Ret) Leslie Griffin "Griff" Callahan Jr. was inducted by E. B. Vandiver III, with Mr. Les Callahan III, son of the late "Griff" Callahan, in attendance.  Plaques honoring and commemorating the achievements of COL "Griff" Callahan will be placed in the ORSA Hall of Fame at Fort Lee, Virginia, in AMSAA at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, and on a smaller scale in the Pentagon.

The 50th AORS will be co-hosted by the United States Army Materiel Systems Analysis Activity (AMSAA) and the Army Logistics University (ALU) at Fort Lee, VA in November 2011.
