FORT LEE, Va. (Nov. 15, 2012) -- The lieutenants of the Quartermaster Basic Officer Leaders Course Class 12-011 recently took time out of their busy 16-week training course to run food drives over four days in October and November in cooperation with the Colonial Heights Food Pantry. The class collected 1,751 pounds of nonperishable food items as well as $2,200 in monetary donations toward Thanksgiving turkeys by setting up collection points outside of the Colonial Heights Walmart and K-Mart. They also established a collection bin at the Army Logistics University.
It was one of the food pantry’s most successful food drives in history, said Lori Mollnow, the pantry’s director.
When QM BOLC Class 12-011 discovered the Colonial Heights Food Pantry was running low on donations while its clientele was increasing, the class decided to assist by coordinating and staffing local food drives. The 46-member class took shifts on two weekends in order to collect nonperishable items and money.
“Thanks so much to the Quartermaster Class 12-011,” said Mollnow. “This just might be the most successful food and fund drive our pantry has ever had. It is definitely the most successful drive I have seen in my time with Colonial Heights Food Pantry. This group has been so generous with its time and efforts. Our community will benefit tremendously from all the hard work.”
