FORT LEE, Va. (Nov. 24, 2011) - Fourteen Army Logistics University faculty members were recently honored for their "exceptional technical competence, communicative skills, professionalism and training site management" during a ceremony in Bunker Hall's Dickerson Auditorium. Attendees included Col. Mark A. McCormick, ALU commandant, and Richard J. Poole, dean of education and operations.
Common among Army schools and a first for the ALU, which was organized at Fort Lee in 2009, the Distinguished Instructor and Instructor/Educator of the Year Awards Ceremony will become an annual event at Bunker Hall. "It's an opportunity to recognize ... the exceptional performance and significant achievements that greatly contribute to the success of (academics) on the campus of ALU," according to a narrative that was read at the event.
Those honored at the Nov. 7 ceremony were nominated by their individual departments at the school. Their accomplishments included a score of 90 percent or greater during a class presentation evaluation, an achievement that ALU officials described as "remarkable."
"They clearly demonstrate an untiring commitment to providing quality training and education to all students seeking knowledge within the hallowed halls of the ALU," the ceremony narrative also read.
Each of the Distinguished Instructor Award recipients received a certificate, a silver badge and a cherry-wood box with the university logo carved on the outside and a brass plate with the awardees name inside as well as an ALU coin. Photos of the overall Instructors/Educators of the Year have been added to a permanent display at the school. They also will be nominated for the 2011 U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Instructor/Educator of the Year Competition.
