CLCRS
The mission of the United States Military Academy’s (USMA) Center for Languages, Cultures, and Regional Studies (CLCRS) is to pursue applied and theoretical research in instructional design and delivery, experiential learning, and assessment in foreign language proficiency, intercultural competence, and regional expertise in support of the Academy’s academic and military program goals and U.S Army and Department of Defense (DoD) requirements.

The Human Terrain System (HTS)
The Human Terrain System (HTS) Project is an Army-led, OSD supported initiative to provide socio-cultural teams to commanders and staffs at the Brigade-through-Theater level, in order to improve the understanding of the local population as applied to the Military Decision-Making Process. HTS attaches Human Terrain Teams (HTTs) to deployed units and support them with a CONUS-based Reach-back Research Center (RRC). This human terrain knowledge provides a socio-cultural foundation for the staff’s support to the Commander’s Military Decision Making Process.

USAF Culture and Language Center (AFCLC)
In 2007, the Air Force selected cross-cultural competence as the centerpiece of Air University’s re-accreditation. AFCLC is a one-stop shop for Airmen’s culture and language training and education needs. It also oversees the Air Force’s Negotiation Center of Excellence (
NCE) and a Language Center. In May 2009, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force approved the Air Force Culture, Region and Language (
CRL) Flight Plan.
